When the historian, Aidan Dockery, visited the sixth class of the school, he brought with him many artifacts concerning the First World War and The 1916 Easter Rising in Ireland. These included some possessions of his uncle, Private Joseph Dockery. He brought some of his war medals, rewards, the Death Plaque, his letters he wrote back to home and the belt he was wearing when he was shot dead in France, 1918. The bullet-hole of the fatal bullet was still visible on the belt!
He also brought lots of books, about the World War and about the Easter Rising. He told many fascinating tales of soldiers fighting in the World War, and about the executions of the leaders of the 1916 Rising.
He played some videos on YouTube of songs and poems about the World War.
He left the students in awe of the heroic deeds and the terrible toll of the War and The Easter Rising.
